Mass at Mount Tabor

Theme: The Transfiguration, Pilgrimage to Jerusalem
This morning after breakfast at the hotel, we drove through the valley of Jezreel to Mount Tabor! As we made our way to the top of the mountain, we were met with an utterly commanding view of all of Galilee. To stand where Jesus revealed His glory and divinity to Peter, James, and John, was absolutely surreal. “Lord, it is good for us here.”

Bus Route

Afterward, we celebrated 10AM Mass at the Church of the Transfiguration where we were also given some time of silence for prayer and reflection before starting our drive towards Jerusalem. The Basilica of the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor is one of the most beautiful churches in the Holy Land. Here the eternal meets the temporal. The theme of change can be seen everywhere: in the architecture, in the art, and even in the weather.

After lunch, we were dropped off at the Dung Gate which was the gate that led to the Jewish Quarter in the Old City of Jerusalem. We visited the Southern and Western Wall excavations and walked the very same steps that Jesus and His disciples walked when entering into the temple area. Upon exploring the foundations of the Western Wall, we also were able to see the ritual baths built by Herod the Great located outside of the temple area!

Finally, we walked up to the Western Wall for prayers and continued to the hotel for check-in. We ended the night with dinner and an overnight stay at the Ambassador Hotel in Jerusalem.
