Holy Orders
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain.” – John 15:16
The Sacrament of Holy Orders is the way through which men are called by God and consecrated to serve the Church in a unique and vital way—as deacons, priests, or bishops. Through this sacrament, the ordained receive the grace and spiritual authority to preach the Gospel, celebrate the sacraments, and shepherd God’s people.
Holy Orders is not just a role, but a vocation—a lifelong calling to serve Christ and His Church with humility, fidelity, and love. Rooted in the mission of the apostles, the ordained ministry continues Christ’s priestly presence in the world today.
There are three degrees of Holy Orders:
- Deacon – ordained for service and ministry of the Word, liturgy, and charity.
- Priest – ordained to preside at Mass, hear confessions, anoint the sick, and guide the faithful.
- Bishop – entrusted with the fullness of the priesthood, overseeing a diocese and ordaining new clergy.
Discerning a call to the priesthood or diaconate is a sacred and personal process. If you or someone you know is considering this vocation, we encourage you to pray deeply and seek spiritual guidance. Speaking with a priest or spiritual director can be a helpful first step in understanding where God may be leading you.
