Baptism
A Joyful Beginning!
Each Sunday, we joyfully celebrate the gift of new life through the Sacrament of Baptism! Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of faith—it frees us from sin, makes us sons and daughters of God, unites us with Christ, and welcomes us into the family of the Church, also making us sharers in her mission! We are honored to walk with you as you prepare to celebrate this sacred moment for yourself or your child.
Baptism of Infants (Infants - 6yrs)
Since infants and young children (up to age six) cannot make this commitment on their own, it is the parents who express their desire to pass on the Catholic faith they themselves believe and live. Sacramental preparation classes are offered for parents of infants and children up to six years old. Read More Below.
To register for a Baptism Preparation Workshop, please contact the Parish Office at 703-494-4008.
Baptism of Older Children (7yrs+)
Children age 7 and older participate in a more formal process known as the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults for Children (OCIA). To schedule an initial interview and determine the appropriate placement for your child, please contact our OCIA Director.
Baptism of Adults
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the process through which individuals are welcomed, formed, and catechized in the Catholic faith. It is also intended for baptized Catholics who have not yet received the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation.
If you are interested in becoming Catholic or need to complete your Sacraments of Initiation, please contact our OCIA Director to schedule an interview and determine the best path forward.
Baptism Preparation Workshop
(For Infants through age 6)
Parents who wish to have their child baptized are invited to attend a Baptism Preparation Workshop, which offers a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the beauty of the sacrament, your own relationship with Christ, and what it means to raise your child in the faith. It’s also a chance to ask any questions and become familiar with the baptism ceremony. To register your child for Baptism, a Baptism Workshop, or for more information, please contact our Parish Office.
For Godparents
Being chosen as a godparent is both a great honor and a sacred responsibility. A godparent is more than just a special guest at a baptism—they are a spiritual guide, a witness to the faith, and a lifelong support in the child’s journey with Christ. Godparents are called to help nurture the child’s Catholic faith through prayer, example, and encouragement.
To serve as a godparent, one must be a fully initiated Catholic (having received Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist), at least 16 years old, and living a life in harmony with the Church. A letter of eligibility from the godparent’s parish may be required. If you’ve been asked to take on this important role, we’re here to walk with you in preparation and support.
