Liturgical Blessings
What are Liturgical Blessings?
Liturgical blessings are special prayers of the Church, offered by a priest or deacon, that call down God’s grace and protection in particular moments of life. These blessings—whether for people, sacred objects, or occasions—flow from the Church’s liturgy and remind us that every part of our lives belongs to God and can be made holy through His grace. (Previously blessed items are not to be blessed again).
- Blessing of Sacramentals (rosaries, statues, religious medals, crucifixes, etc.)
- Enrollment of the Brown Scapular
The Brown Scapular is not blessed as a sacramental on its own. Instead, those who wish to wear it are first enrolled in the Confraternity of Our Lady of Mount Carmel as their Scapular is blessed. Enrollment in the Brown Scapular is a simple, one-time ceremony in which a priest formally places you under the mantle of Our Lady’s care.
Enrollment in the Brown Scapular occurs four times a year on our Friday *Ember Days.
- Blessing of the Vehicles
The Blessing of Vehicles is a blessing asking God to protect drivers and passengers, keeping them safe on the road. Through this, we entrust our travels to God’s care and ask for His guidance and protection in every journey.
- This special blessing occurs four times a year on our Saturday *Ember Days after the 9:00am Mass.
Here at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, we celebrate Ember Days as part of Living Liturgically in our parish. Ember Days are celebrated four times a year, following the seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall. Each season consists of three days of celebration: Reflection, Mass/Adoration/Confession, and Service.
